1977: a 30 m² restaurant on the road to Rabat

How a small restaurant beside the N1 became a meeting place for several generations.

Tahadart's façade, its sign and the red dolphin

On the road linking Tangier and Asilah, there is a red dolphin on a rooftop. For many families in northern Morocco, it is a landmark: it tells them they are arriving at Tahadart.

According to the family, it all began in 1977. Mohammed Bentaher opened a small restaurant of about 30 m². The idea was simple: to welcome those who stopped by.

Growing without changing the idea

The place grew over the years: a larger dining room, an on-site butchery, the charcoal grill, terraces, then a campsite and bungalows. Today, the family estimates the grounds at about five hectares.

The exact dates of these expansions have not yet been established. Rather than invent them, we prefer to wait for the family's recollections and papers, and complete this story with them.

Your memories matter

If you came to Tahadart long ago, your photos can help us piece this story together. They will only be published with your permission.
